I watched Ghosts of Rwanda last night. I was familiar already with several of the people profiled in it, primarily from having read Philip Gourevitch’s excellent We Wish To Inform You That Tomorrow We Will Be Killed With Our Families a few years ago. It gave a good overview of the situation, and the bureaurocratic heel-dragging that resulted in nearly a million people being massacred. I wished it had gone into the history of the (largely fabricated) division between Hutu and Tutsi (way to go, !), but it’s a good primer for anyone interested. I miss Bill Clinton for sure, but this was easily one of his (and Madeline Albright's) most colossal humanitarian fuck-ups.
